ABOUT DOWN WITH THE SHINE:
Lennie always thought her uncles’ “important family legacy” was good old-fashioned bootlegging. Then she takes some of her uncles’ moonshine to Michaela Gordon’s annual house party, and finds out just how wrong she was.

At the party, Lennie has everyone make a wish before drinking the shine—it’s tradition. She toasts to wishes for bat wings, for balls of steel, for the party to go on forever. Lennie even makes a wish of her own: to bring back her best friend, Dylan, who was murdered six months ago.

The next morning gives Lennie a whole new understanding of the phrase be careful what you wish for—or in her case, be careful what wishes you grant. Because all those wishes Lennie raised a jar of shine to last night? They came true. Most of them came out bad. And once granted, a wish can’t be unmade…
DWTS was such a fun book! It was honestly so refreshing to get to read this amidst all the heavy family drama type books I had been reading. The main character, Lennie, whose name I LOVE by the way, was so funny and quirky while also being tough. She's outcasted out school due to her father who's on the run from the law, and her best friend just died. Both are pretty heavy and emotionally taxing topics, but I never felt overbearing sadness while reading.

One night, Lennie crashes a popular girls party with her uncle's famous moonshine, one that literally grants your wishes as long as you repeat the right chant. All night, unbeknownst to her, Lennie is granting wishes as she doles out moonshine. Isn't this one of the most unique plots you've ever heard of!? It really takes "Careful what you wish for" to a completely different level. The next morning the house where she granted all the wishes is a complete wreck, complete with a cheeto monster, uncrossable borders, tennis balls, and a basement with (something you'll have to read to find out about *insert smirky emojis*)....

DWTS made me laugh out loud a ton. I was honestly surprised with how funny I thought it was, because I usually don't display much outward emotion when I read, but this was clearly an exception. I would tell you about all of my favorite funny parts right now, BUUUT reading it would probably be a much better option for you ;). (Honestly...I would probably butcher all of them as I tried to explain how great they were...)

Is the romance in this book actually one of my favorite romances ever? I just adore the enemies to lovers trope, and I don't think there has ever been a time I've been opposed to it. Plus, it was sooo well done in this book!

Overall, a really fun read that's equal parts humor and lightheartedness but still manages to hit you where you feel it and put forth some really nice, subtle messages! I completely recommend this, especially as the end of the school year rolls around, it just fits that mood.
